advice in applying for a tourist visa

Hi, my name is Priscila and I'm a brazilian citizen. I'm 25 years old and I'm currently in my third year of college. I'm going to major in business management, if everything goes well, i'll graduate in the end of next year. I would like to visit canada as a tourist and possibly look for a job and then try to get a work permit after I graduate. My mother has a cattle ranch and my father has a brick factory, they have good income. Currently I don't work because I dedicate all my time to my studies. I would like to know if you think I should apply for a canadian tourist visa while i'm still in college, would I have more chances in being granted? I do have a small problem though, when I was 13 years old, I visited the US with my parents and we overstayed our tourist visa. Can that be an obstacle for me being granted a tourist visa to canada? What kind of paperwork should I prepare to apply for the visa? Any advice will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you
