Hello, I have some questions. I am an American female who has been staying with my Canadian boyfriend in Canada for five months. My visitor status ends Dec 14, 2015 unless I am approved for another six months. I am a day or two away from being ready to mail it, I just have a couple final questions before I do. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
1. When mailing it in rather than going online, how exactly do I mail it? UPS signature required? I know online is faster but I am having trouble uploading a clean version of my visa picture and I have a lot of pages for my documents so I found it would be less stress just to do it all on paper.
2.Our original plan was to try to extend for the purpose of gaining common law status. I read on other forums that mentioning this, or that you are engaged, will make them think that you would overstay your visa and that your intent is to settle instead of leaving when your visa is up, and they will deny it. I changed the focus of my application to say that I was "exploring my relationship further," since most of our relationship has been done via distance, and we have only had short sporadic visits with each other prior to this extended visit in Canada. Now I am reading recent replies on this forum that people had great luck just saying they were trying to apply for common law status, so I'm just not sure what to do as far as my reason.
3. How do I show proper ties to my country of origin? I have no lease, I do not live in the same state as my immediate family, I have no job in the states. I will definitely go back if I have to, of course. I have no intention of ruining my chances to gain PR status and live permanently with my partner. I have no way to prove that it would be easy for me to re-assimilate into my former life in the states, but I do believe that if I had to leave I could stay with a friend and get rehired at my old job. I also could just go back to live with family in Indiana if it came down to it. I worry that a good faith promise will not be good enough for CIC.
Thank you anyone who read this and can offer me any advice. Sorry this was so long, I pruned out a lot of anxious rambling.
