Advice for a visitor visa for my girlfriend

Hello everyone!

I am a Canadian citizen and I live in Costa Rica. Just wondering if anyone from personal experience can give advice on how to obtain a visitors visa for my Costa Rican girlfriend. We are looking to go only for 2 weeks in order to visit my family.

Would it be recommended that I provide the invitation letter myself or have a family member do it? I am clearly committed to staying in Costa Rica. I currently hold a 5 year temporary residence status. I own a vehicle, property and house here and I also run a business business owned together with family and myself. I would expect that my status and ties to Costa Rica as well as her daughter who will not be accompanying us on the trip displays that she is not a risk of staying in Canada illegally.

Any advice or pointers would be much appreciated!

She has to submit her application and explain the situation, then you will write a support letter saying that you would like her to join you in your trip. Then if you say you are going to help her with her expenses show proof that you have the sufficient funds. Why would a family member be an option? If you are inviting her you should write the letter (unless you are a minor).

Is she your dependant? If so how can you prove it? Only if these two are satisfactory then you can use your situation as a tie to her country. It is not about what you can prove, it is about what she can prove. How is CIC going to be sure that she has not been dating you in order to enter illegally to Canada and look for a job? The only way to prove it is that SHE has ties to her own country not you.

Why is her daughter (that is what I understood) won't be making the trip? CIC likes to see families travel together, any special reason?

Thank you for your reply Jalex23.Sorry for the very long overdue response. I have been very busy with work.

The reason I mentioned a family member is because from what I understood (could be wrong), you must be a Canadian resident in order to write the invitation letter. I am no longer a resident of Canada.

What would classify her as my dependent and what is required to show this?

The reason for her daughter to stay behind is because her biological father will not sign the required documents for her to leave the country. He is a complete deadbeat and has not seen his daughter in 8 years and never paid a cent to help them out but as the law is he must sign. Second reason is since this will be our first trip to Canada for her to meet my family and what not it is probably best to just be us as it will be a bit of a whirlwind tour visiting various members of my family as it is only a 2 week trip.
