Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of obtaining my Permanent Residency (PR) through a Non-Express Entry program. I submitted my application on April 20, 2024 — over a year ago. A few days ago, I received an Additional Document Request (ADR).

The ADR was related to my son, who turned 18 years old in February 2025. Immigration requested information about his travel history and related documents. The request was issued on April 17, and I submitted the documents the same day.

All other steps have already been completed:
  • Biometrics were requested and approved in August 2024.
  • Medical exams were requested and passed in September 2024.
  • We also received the Pre-Arrival Services Letter (PAL), which, as I understand, indicates that we passed the eligibility stage.
Since September 2024, we have been waiting at the Background Check stage. We are a family of four. All four of us were stuck at “Background Check in progress” until recently. On April 17, 2025 — the same day the ADR was issued — the Background Checks for my wife and myself were updated to “completed.” However, both of my sons — the one who is now 18 and the one who is 14 — still show “Background Check in progress,” and have been in that status since September.

According to my tracker, the only pending item now is the Background Check for my two sons. Everything else is completed.

Given these circumstances, what should I expect now? Is this a positive sign?

Thank you very much for any insights you can share.
