Admission defer for one semester

Hello everybody,

I need an urgent help.

I am living in Ontario with post-graduate work permit until Aug2015.

My wife has arrived Canada on 3/4 days ago with a valid study permit to attend an University in Quebec. She did not apply for open work permit as my spouse.

Could she defer admission for one semester and apply for open work permit as my spouse now?

Please give your thoughts regarding this issue.

If she applies for the open work permit - this will effectively cancel her study permit and she will need to apply for a new study permit once she is ready to study.
