additional dependants form

Hey all,

quick question about the additional dependants form...

I am sponsoring my wife to come to Canada from the U.S. We have a son together (he is already a certified Canadian citizen) and I have him listed as a dependant on the Generic form...he is our only dependant. Do I need to fill out the additional dependant form?

edit: ok, I see that we fill-out this form if the family of the principle applicant is larger than 5 people. What does this mean? By family do they me my wife, my son and myself? does she have to include her mother and father in that even though they are not in the application?

Yep.

Guide 3999 states:

SECTION B

Write the personal details for your children. It is very important that you list all of your children (even if they are already permanent residents or citizens of Canada). This includes:

married children,
adopted children,
children of your spouse(step-children) or common-law partner,
any of your children who have been adopted by others,
any of your children who are in the custody of an ex-spouse, former common-law partner or other guardian.
You must answer all questions. If any sections do not apply to you, answer “N/A”.

Here is where I am confused...all of the information asked of my son in the "additional dependent" form is the same as what is in the generic form. seems odd

You are the sponsor. Your wife is the principle applicant. Your son is not a dependent for the purposes of PR application, as he is already a Canadian citizen, so on the principle applicant's application form (IMM 0008), he would not go there as a dependent. In fact, if you read carefully, it says that "...who are not already PR or citizens of Canada".

When it comes to family information though in the other forms, your son will be listed as a child/dependent, and so will you as the spouse. Those forms ask about family and extended family composition and must be thorough.

As said above, your son is NOT a dependent. Remove him from IMM0008. He is listed on the Additional Family form and the Sponsorship Evaluation form.

Sorry, I missed you mentioning IMM 0008(Generic). But yes you do put them in Additional Dependants, but not IMM 0008.
