I have applied for PR with Quebec Selection certificate, skilled worker program. I applied for the selection certificate when I was single. The certificate was issued when we just got married and I decided to add my wife as a non-accompanying dependent. Th PR process took longer than expected, over 14months now. We are base in Munich, Germany.

Now we received a request for medicals of my wife and I, another request with a letter from Vienna requesting for our police clearance certificates and my biometrics. On the day we got this emails my wife gave birth to twin girls.

We want to add our babies as dependents, and are considering the following three options
  1. Add the babies as accompanying dependents and let my wife stay as non-accompanying
  2. Add the babies as accompanying dependents and change my wife to accompanying
  3. Add the babies as non-accompanying and let my wife stay as non-accompanying
Given the above options, what is the best thing to do? Please share experiences.

2 is the best option if you don’t want to be potentially separated for almost a year. Even if your spouse and children got visas to remain in Canada as visitors during sponsorship they would not have access to healthcare in most provinces.

Thank you for the advice. I am afraid option 2 will lead to further delays and reevaluation of the selection certificate. An option I am considering is get the PR for myself first go to Canada and obtain an address, apply(sponsor) for them then come back and wait for them till their PR is approved.

you must remain in Canada throughout the sponsorship,
