Dear All,

Me, my wife & son have all obtained our PR on Oct, 2014. But since my wife was pregnant with our second child just before we landed in Canada, my wife wanted to deliver the child back home where are relatives & friends are rather than going & delivering in a new country.

Anyhow after landing & getting PR we returned back to the country & now the child is delivered outside Canada.

Now my question is how can I add my new child or apply for her PR?

We are still outisde Canada & plan to move before end of this year.

You would have to sponsor the child for PR. If you are from the visa exempted country, you can bring the child with you. However the PR application is still process outland. There is no inland PR application for dependents.

If the child is in non-visa exempt country, the child would need a visa to enter Canada. You can try to apply for a visa for the child but the odds are not in your favour in getting it. The child be have to stay in home country until PR application is complete. I'm assuming that both of you are PR thus one of you have to be residing in Canada before you can start the application. The other may have to stay behind with child until PR is completed.

Congratulations with the birth of your baby girl!

As Permanent Residents, you (or your wife) can sponsor your baby as long as the sponsor is living in Canada. So, at least one of you will need to move to Canada to be able to sponsor your daughter. (You can't 'add' your baby to your prior application since you and your wife already landed so that application is completed).

If you both wish to move together and take your daughter with you, she'd need to visit Canada until she becomes a PR. Depending on what her citizenship is, you may need to apply for a visitor visa for her to be able to do so. This can sometimes be complicated, since the VO can (rightfully) deduce that she is actually going to be moving with you and is unlikely to leave when her visitor visa expires (since she can't do so without her parents who will be living in Canada!). You can always ask for a visitor's permit if the temporary resident visa is rejected, but before we get into all that it would be helpful to know a bit more about her country of citizenship so we can get into details based on the wait time for the relevant visa office if a tourist visa is even required!

Hi,

We find ourselves in the exact same situation, albeit having activated our PR in May 2014.

Following the birth of our daughter we are aiming to make the move to Canada in spring 2016. My daughter holds both a UK and French passport and from what I can gather from earlier responses we should be all able to move to Canada and then apply to sponsor her once there.

Is my understanding correct?
