Does IRCC require scanned copies of expired travel visas from expired passports or just the current ones? If I am to mention my travels in the SOP, is it necessary to provide proof (visa copy) in the documents even if it is expired?

Is this on one of the required docs to be submitted? Why are you adding your travels in your SOP?

The portal asks to add a copy of the passport's information page and any valid visas. In the SOP, I want to mention my travels to show that I am a frequent traveler and always 'came back' to my home country. I believe it will improve my chances a little, don't you think?
But then do I need to give a proof of my travels even if the visas are already used/expired?

IMO I would mention the other travel in your SOP but I wouldn't add copies of previous visas, if they question the previous travel and want proof then provide it at that time. You are applying for a study visa not a visitor visa, with a visitor visa you definitely would want to add all the travel history. Your application approval will partly be based on whether they think you will return home but the main focus is the study aspect. If you have a strong SOP in your app that shows you are doing appropriate courses to further your career progression in your home country when you complete the course is more important than your past travel history. That, in a large part, shows your intention to return home after studying.

Have you ever applied to enter Canada before on any type of visa?

Yeah, that makes sense!

I haven’t applied to Canada for any kind of visa before. I do, however, have a US visit visa refusal. But that was in 2016 (I was 16). My mom applied for the entire family and got refused so we went to South Africa that summer. Does that refusal affect my chances?

It is important that you disclose the US refusal and the reason for it if you know. With it being your Mom who applied for the family and you not being the primary applicant it probably wouldn't carry the same weight as if you had applied on your own, but everything will be considered. Don't worry too much about that because that part is out of your control, remember it's the study visa you are focusing on.
