I just wanted some help in figuring the best and fastest option.

A little bit about my background.

I am an Indian citizen currently in the US on a student visa which expires June,2017. Knwing the risk involved in applying for H1b, i decided to look at canada. I recently got PPR and am waiting for my COPR from Ottawa.
Now comes the tricky part.
I am going to get married in the last week of december and my fiance is an indian national as well residing in India. She does however have a tourist visa to the US and i am planning on having her come over after the marriage till i am ready to move to Canada.

I am planning to do my landing during Thanksgiving(US-- EOM November). However, I was wondering if it would be better to do my landing and then sponsor my wife(now fiance) when i move to Canada
OR
I should not do my landing, get married and add her to my application.

NDVO is notorious for slow application processing but i am in a dillema here because outland spousal sponsorship take about 13 months as of now. Inland is not an option right now because she does not have a Canadian Visitor visa yet.

What would be the best course of action keeping in mind that I HAVE to leave the US by end of June 2017 and I must go to Canada directly from the US because i have a dog with me and it would just be easier to do that.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

First of all congratulations about the PR, and soon hopefully the marriage.

You cant add her to the application because you have already completed your application successfully by getting the PR.

What I would do if I were you. Land to Canada as soon as I can, and then apply for sponsor for spouse (It takes around a year if she is outside of Canada)

My advise to everyone dont delay your landing, do it as fast as you can.

Good luck.

Thanks

The COPR says that if there is any change in the life of the primary applicant with regard to family composition, i need to report it to IRCC. I was wondering about taking that route and then adding her to the application. I am guessing this way it would be faster for her to get PR rather than me going to Canada and filing a spousal sponsorship application.

You can try and send them a case specific inquiry and see if they will accept it. Here is the link "https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx"

Good luck my friend!

Thank you Omar!

You can add your spouse at any point in time until landing - that is when your PR status is activated.

Recommend that you do not land now, get married, inform IRCC about your marriage, send them all documentation regarding the same including spouse's passport/medicals/PCC(s) and request them to add your spouse to the current application. I'm assuming that your COPR is valid at least till Dec '17.

IRCC will ask you to return the COPR and passport, they will void the COPR and visa and reissue COPRs and visas for both of you together after they've validated your spouse's documentation and asking you to pay the required fees as well. Both of you can then land together before the new COPR/visas expire.

All the best!

My COPR is valid till March 2017. Do you know how long it would take to process the application if i were to request IRCC to add my wife to the application? I would like to move to Canada from the US and i can only stay in the US till June 2017.

Typically takes around 4-8 weeks from the time you submit all the documentation and pay fees. Unless they find something worrisome about your spouse's medical and/or background information, it should be a breeze.

Thank you for the information. I have a question hope you don't mind posting on this thread. Can the spouse apply for BOWP as well? Will it be a problem if the spouse is working in AB and I'm an ON nominee? Or it'll be safer to land and sponsor afterwards? I believe I need to wait for the PR card before I can send spousal application.
Please advise...

I believe (and I can be wrong, willing to be corrected) that only the PA may apply for BOWP provided they meet all other required conditions.

Not the case. You are a PR from the minute you 'land' in Canada. If you meet these requirements, you can apply for spousal sponsorship.
