Question: if a returning ONT resident/Canadian citizen returns to Canada after being out of the country for a few years gets her health coverage back after 3 months (according to ONTARIO HEALTH website, etc) how can she bridge the gap between arrival and the 3 months? Especially relevant if she is pregnant and needs the usual prenatal care, etc...Please advise...

I don't know specifically about prenatal care, but I bought private insurance before I got OHIP coverage.

You can buy emergency insurance to cover you for accidents and sudden illness but it would be very hard to get insurance to cover your pregnancy since it's a pre-existing condition.

Basically, you have two options:

1) Pay yourself while you wait for OHIP
2) Instead of going back to ON, go to a province which will cover you from day 1 when moving from outside the country or to a province which will make an exception on the waiting time for pregnancy related expenses.
