Activating IEC Work Permit at Canadian Border Services

Hi

I am living in Canada and would like to go to Canadian Border Services (US border) to activate my IEC work permit.
I am going to start a new job in few weeks.
Is it possible to ask the officer to put a later date as the start date of my work permit? I mean let's say I go to border on 10th and ask them to activate my work permit from 20th. Is this possible, assuming that my health insurance covers the period of the permit?

The work permit will be activated the same day you go to the border. You can't defer the activation to a future date.

Hello, I curently in Canada on a work permit that expiers in 1 month but i was already issued a new work permit. On these papers it says that my work permit can only be valid when I enter Canada. The thing is that I am already here do I have to leave the country and reenter in order for me to get my new work permit ?
