Acknowledgement letter: Not received

I have yet to receive the acknowledgement letter for my application which was sent on 01 August 2011. My account on the CIC website shows that the application was received. I also have a copy of the registered mail receipt indicating that the application was received.

Is such a long delay normal?

Same issue with my friend who applied 3/4 weeks after you. He called CIC. They advised to recheck in September 2012

Thank you for your reply. Surely they can send an acknowledgement letter. Why would it take them more a year to respond? Especially when the status online shows that the application has been received. The CIC moves in mysterious ways.
