ACK! Late open work permit application?!

Hi!

I'm hoping someone can help me out - We've submitted a PR application, but only learned afterward that we could have attached a application for an open work permit! D'OH! >.<
I'm having trouble finding info online on how to submit one AFTERWARDS. Has anyone done this?!

I'm Canadian, and I'm sponsoring my common-law boyfriend from Australia. We're doing an IN Canada application, and he's here legally on a Working Holiday visa. It expires in April 2013.

We sent our PR application in August 2011, and they started working on it in September 2011.

As far as I know, I have not been accepted as a sponsor yet. *crosses fingers*

You can send in a separate application for a work permit, but since he appears to be in status on the present visa until Apr 2013 you need not apply to extend that until a minimum of a month prior to it expiring.

Contact the call centre for confirmation if you are concerned, but if your information is listed correctly all sounds to be in order and he just needs to keep in status.

Perhaps by then he'll be a PR and no more concern about applying for work permits.

Minimum of a month?! That's awesome - I'm so used to these processes taking 6 or more (the work visas, the PR application) that I was getting panicky about this open work permit - so, this is good news. Thanks NBaker!

Lord knows I've tried, lol - as I'm sure you know, it's hard to do so working 9 to 5, since their hours are 8-4, and being on hold takes a bit of time (and I've had 2 dropped calls after 10+ minutes of waiting @_@). this is why I used the online website for CIC so extensively through the PR process, and why I panicked when I couldn't find all the answers I needed about the open work permit.

So, thanks for taking the time to give me some answers! It's greatly appreciated And it puts me more at ease!
