(Asking for a friend in distress)
2. I will stop working soon (as soon as my OWP expires). I expect I will have substantial tax refund (since I would not have been working the whole year). Without my SIN being active, how can they send me the tax refund (direct deposit) in April next year?
Would be much obliged for your help in this matter.
1. Can I access my bank accounts and funds from outside Canada (and hopefully keep spending them)? Without a valid status, can the bank close / freeze my account?I am an Open Work Permit holder, working a full time job in Canada for 1.5 years. Since my spouse's SP is about to be expired, my OWP will expire as well. I am going back to my home country until such time arises when I can apply for PR. (did not qualify in recent draws). I have chequing and saving accounts at ScotiaBank. My experience with them is a mixture of satisfaction and confusion. They insist any bank account must accompany a legal status in Canada which I totally agree with. Yet they do not recognize implied status (a recent case that happened to my colleague). It doesn't seem like they bear any fiduciary duties towards their customers.
