I am an ACCA certificate holder. ACCA is a chartered accountancy body from UK. I would like to know the job prospects for a chartered accountant having 15 years experience in different countries. I have enough points to migrate as a skilled worker. I have read from many articles and blogs that many professionals like doctors and engineers are forced to take up jobs in restaurants and groceries when they land up in Canada. This may be due to their qualication is not valid in Canada. But ACCA is a valid and can sign audit reports. Does this make any difference and help me to get a good job. I dont want to work as a cashier or steward in the restaurants....:):)..Please anyone can give me a clear idea about this.

Cheers

i am an ACCA member myself and have also worked in different countries( 10+ yrs), as per info i collected from people living in Canada we shouldnt have a problem landing a decent job however we need to get CGA certification in order to get even better jobs. I think u probably know that we do have a mutual recognition agreement with many bodies including CGA.

Hi...thanks..
Yeah I am aware that there is a mutual understanding between ACCA and CGA. We can wait for more reply from someone in this forum from canada, who may be able to help us with more details...
Cheers

Hi Guys

I am also an ACCA, UK. 2 friends of mine have emigrated to Canada and have converted to CGA upon arrival, due to the reciprocity agreement. All you have to do is sit 2 exams - Tax and Law in order to start working in Canada.

Both friends have landed well paying jobs, thereafter. So hopefully, we will not have to work at Burger King selling burgers !

Regards

Hi guys, I am an ACCA affiliate. I contacted CGA & they said that all ACCA members must have university degrees to get CGA membership. So, we should have a ACCA membership+Uni. Degree= get CGA membership.

Am I right?

yes that is true we need bachelors degree besides ACCA full membership and also need to pass two papers.
Guys i saw a post on acca website where they say that our qualification is equavilant to UK masters degree based on which, should we asume that we will be getting 25 points for education. Especially if we have done 3 years articleship plus bachelors aswell?

I really wish that is true - how do we go about convincing them that ACCA = Masters ? get a testimonial from ACCA ?

Well i think if they go as per instrutions of op06 they should consider it as masters, as it clearly states tht officer should deduce his/her assesment based on interpertation of local bodies of that particular degree.
Also if it comes to a point where we are not given numbers as per our expectations and falling short of some points than we can send them printout of below link and try our luck through substituted assesment request

fellow accountants...im a Philippine CPA but not yet ACCA qualified...could you guys give me an idea how to get that certification? I browsed their website and found that I can get the exemption of F1 to F3....F4 to F9 however should be taken...

Could you advise me how did you prepare for the exam?

Appreciate your positive response on this. I already submitted full docs to london office and waiting for my 2nd AOR.

Regards,

Hi CPA2CANADA

Since you already have CPA i personally dont think it will be difficult to sit the exams. There are very good study texts and revision kits available published by BPP & AT Foulks Lynch in the UK. My preference has been BPP. In addition the exam papers & answers are available on the ACCA website. It is possible to self-study like this.

But my question to you would be why dont you go straight into converting your CPA to CGA ?

Hi shibleebd,

Whether you are an affiliate or a member the points would be the same - i think at the very least they should consider it at bachelors level. The difference between an affiliate and a member is the number of years of relevant work experience.

A friend of mine has had his application processed on that basis - he does not have an undergraduate degree. and his case is now at the local CHC for processing under NOC 1111.

I hope this helps.
