Hi guys,

Am a current transfer student ,going to SFU in the fall semester .

it says on the CEC website it says "2 or more certificates, diploma, degree, program that are at least 3 years "

so technically , if an individual completes a degree of 4 years in addition a certificate more points would be awarded?
If so what is the definition of a "certificate" ? , are there certain credit hours/ length of program that must be met before a certificate could be given?

"Certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making (CBADM) (Website)

The Certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making (BADM) provides undergraduate Business Major and Joint Major students with the opportunity to acquire skills in business analytics and decision-making: ability to ask the right questions, data management (databases and warehouses), familiarity with statistical and computational methods. All of which are tested and applied within a real world context through hands-on experience within the capstone course."

i a planning to complete mine bachelor of business administration as well as one of the optional certificates available, it is a 30 credits program, would it be valid for additional points? i know it sounds silly, since i am worrying about immigration before graduating ,but well i do wish to stay in Canada :-[

what do you guys think ? ,

Tough question to answer. I would normally say yes, that it would give you the extra 7 points, but it looks like it is not a "stand alone" certificate (only current majors can take it, so you would have to do it concurrently, not sequentially), and it's not clear if the extra courses become part of your degree, or if you actually attend for an extra year. So I think there might be some issues with getting it accepted for the extra 7 points, but it probably will not make or break your eligibility either way.

Unfortunately, the guidelines that CIC uses are not published. My suggestion would be to visit the SFU International Student Support office. These services usually have good information on whether their programs will help their students achieve their immigration goals.
