I have a question about applying for visitor visa, I plan on staying for 3 months (new years and holidays and bday of my family friend in february) so is it good to apply for 3 months or 1 month and hope they will let me stay for 3 months. Are my chances better with 1 month or not?

A three month' visit indicates weak ties to your home country. It is equally same for a visit of one month.

While visiting for sightseeing/New Years is okay, wanting to visit to celebrate the birthday of a family friend is a weak purpose of visit.

How long your TRV would be valid for + how long you are allowed to stay in Canada would depend on the visa officer who assesses your application and the CBSA officer at the POE respectively
