About to start my EE journey!

Hi All,

First off i would like to say what a great forum this is to find out information, i was going to pay a lawyer $$$ to do my EE profile but i think with my knowledge and the help from you guys, ill be okay!

So i just sat my IELTS and i am awaiting results for that before i can even proceed..

a couple of questions straight out of the gates,

I have an LMIA for 2 years that i activated in November, i believe this gets me 600 points correct?

Combining that with what i already have which is 390 I am well within range to get invited for EE.

With this in mind, should i still waste time trying to get job references from old employers that i cannot get a hold of? and getting my education assessed? (i only did GCSES and A levels) none of which have any relevance on the job i am doing now, nor do i need the points towards my profile and it seems a waste of dollars?

I also noticed that at the begining of the application it told me to put down how much money i have to bring with me? well, i currently have 10k sat in my bank account (which, according to the website, that isnt enough) but with my job i earn 70k PA soooo, i guess i just leave that part zero?

Do i also need to go through the whole job bank part? surely if i have a job with a positive LMIA, all of this is irrelevant to me?

I don't have experience with LMIA, I thought I'll just tell you what I know and also bump your thread up)

As far as I know, your LMIA has to satisfy several requirements, one of them is that it can't be an "open" LMIA, i.e. it has to have been obtained for you specifically. I assume that is the case and also that you have checked any other possible reqs at the IRCC website.
You probably don't need the education assessment and the job references if you don't need the CRS points. I believe the PoF is also not required.
But you better check that information, I could be wrong.

You might want to look for fkl's posts, he got his PPR recently, and he applied with LMIA, and had some really informative posts on the process. He's from the September or maybe October thread, if I remember correctly.

I'm no expert on LMIAs, but provided you have the right kind along with a qualifying job offer, the following is true:

- you will get 600 points
- you only need to provide evidence for work experience to meet minimum eligibility criteria, e.g. for FSW, 1 year. Anything above that is not required because you have enough CRS points already
- you may need an ECA if you don't have a Canadian degree because that's an eligibility requirement for certain programs, e.g. FSW
- you don't need to demonstrate you have the required funds

EDIT: it's worth pointing out that FSW eligibility is also based on a separate points system in which you need to score 67 points out of 100. You will also get points under this system for a qualifying job offer, but double check that this is enough without e.g. including your additional work experience. This only matters of course if you plan to apply under FSW.

I am applying under CEC as thats the one criteria that i meet according to my CIC account.

When looking at my list of documents i need to upload, its asking for my education? i didnt think i needed it with CEC? can i just not include it? or attach a note saying i dont require my education assessed due to me not needing the points?

Not by itself, it doesn't. You get 600 pts for a "valid job offer" which requires 2 things:

1) LMIA
2) Job Offer Letter (this is different from the Letter of Employment) - Written offer of permanent, full-time, not seasonal employment upon your obtaining permanent resident status.

If you qualify for CEC, then no, you don't need those. If you don't, you will need to prove at least 1 yr of continuous skilled employment outside of Canada to qualify for FSW.

If you qualify for CEC, the ECA is not required.

If you believe you will qualify for CEC, you can leave it at zero. But do you have at least 1 year of full-time skilled experience working in Canada already?

If you have a valid job offer (defined above), then you will be able to skip the job bank.

Whats the difference between a letter of employment and an offer of employment?

they both sound the same to me.

I have a job contract stating my position, pay, hours etc...

Just trying to differentiate between the 2.

Letter of employment - letter basically saying that yes i am employed by this company, this is may pay and this is my hours etc.

offer of employment - a contract stating my job role, my wage and pay, basically them offering me the job?

have i got that right?

Offer Letter is a letter issued by an employer to a prospective employee. This letter basically states the position, duties and responsibilities, the pay along with terms and conditions. An offer letter becomes a valid document only once it is accepted by the prospective employee. At this stage, there is no employer-employee relationship established. Once the offer is accepted, you will be issued an appointment letter/employment contract which officially binds you in an employer-employee relationship. This is issued and executed on your date of joining.

Employment Letter/Reference Letter/Experience Letter referred to by different names based on what is covered in the letter, is a letter which is issued after the establishment of an employer-employee relationship. This is issued either on request or when you resign from your role at the organisation.
