Hi,hope all is well.my girlfriend came throu sponsonsorship by her x-husband on February 2020.After she comes got divorce and she received certificate November 2021.After that we met and living together since 2022.she got her citizenship February 2024 and received passport too.now we are planning to marry.at this point she can marry me and can she sponsor me??there was a 5 years barrier to sponsor someone!!!can you advise us please? Thank u

She can marry you. She cannot sponsor you until Feb or March 2025.

There is no problem with marrying, no, no-one will get in any trouble.

In your case because you 've been living together for quite some time, the marriage would not even be required for the sponsorship (assuming you can document the cohabitation), would qualify as a common-law relationship.

If she was formally divorced in November 2021 when did she actually separate from her 1st spouse? How much time did they spend living together after marriage? Was she living in Canada before being sponsored? Was this an arranged marriage or had she dated her 1st husband for a long period of time and in person? Divorces typically take time so if only spent a short time together during 1st marriage your sponsorship may face more scrutiny. What is your status in Canada and can you qualify for PR on your own?
