Hi, I just graduated and i'm supposed to apply for my post graduate work permit online during the next few days when i get the letter from my school... but i have a few questions

1) I'm in Canada and my study permit expired oct 31st which is probably before i get my work permit.. do i need to extend this? if so how can i extend it if i'm not studying anymore??

2) how long does the post graduate work permit take? on the website it show the processing time for off campus work and the processing time for work permit with new employer but its not clear about the post graduate work permit... i have friends who got it in 15 days and others that got it in over 30 but i know things change all the time so i dont know right now how long it's taking to do the online application..

3)I need to go back home beginning of november so in a month... is there a way to get priority or urgent or any way to make the application first????

4) can i go home with my documents before applying and apply for the work permit and TRV from there??? what do u recommend??? I really need to be home by nov 5th at the most thats a month and a week away... what if I apply and dont get my work permit on time before i need to leave????

please help its urgent i dont know what to do or what i'm missing and i'm really stressed!!!!!! thanks

1. You don't need to extend the study permit but you should apply for the post graduation work permit (PGWP) before both your study permit and off-campus work permit expire. This will give you 'implied status' allowing you to continue working while you wait for a decision.

2. Not sure about processing time but some people here got it in 2 months.

3. Unfortunately, it's not possible to speed up processing.

4. The guide does not address how it works applying for a PGWP and TRV from home, when you don't have a job, so I don't know. Ask the CIC call centre.
You may either have to take a risk and see if you are able to apply from home country or wait for the PGWP and TRV before you travel.
