Does anyone know whether the police clearance report has to be valid when the visa is being issued? When the Visa office asked for my husband's passport his police clearance report was valid but it has been about 3 months since and his police clearance report is about to be expired now. Should we be worried about the case being prolonged because of this issue? I know that the medical and passport have to be valid when the visa is being issued but not sure about police clearance.

The medical is the more important of the two, so far as validity is concerned. It might be best for you to ask the individual embassy processing his application, they will be better able to advise you.

From Guide 3999 - Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp):

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months prior to submitting your application. If the original certificate is not in English or French, then you will need to submit both the certificate and the original copy of the translation prepared by an accredited translator.
According to the above quote it seems that as long as your police clearance is valid at the time you submit your application, you should be okay. If anyone can confirm this, it would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! You have been a great help! I am now kinda relieved! We have already submitted it twice in the process and now it's just a matter of a few days.

Thanks for your help. I was just in doubt and you are right, medical is more important. The visa office hardly gives any replies. This forum is indeed very helpful.

There is no way I would have been able to get through this process without this forum (just about done putting my application together at this point, only a few forms left...and then to organize). Well, I probably would have but not without an unimaginable amount of frustration and uncertainty. The helpful and friendly members of this forum have answered so many questions I have had. Best of luck to you!
