about permanent residency obligations, "margin" too thin?

I just moved to Toronto last weekend from another country. And I wonder if I can still take vacations away from Canada for the next few years and need some help.

I landed in Vancouver on Apr 29, 2016 as permanent resident. After that, I stayed in Canada for just one week then returned to home country for employments. On Aug 19, I re-entered Canada using permanent residence card. The total number of days that I spent outside Canada since landing date is roughly 835 days.

I understand that I need to be physically in Canada for 2 years out of 5 years since I landed. That's why I came back on Aug 19 so that I still have a few months left and I can use those for vacations. My plan was to take two vacations away from Canada every year for the next 2 years. And each vacation last no more than 3 weeks.

After I landed, I spoke to some friends that have ties with my family who currently lives in Canada. However, they told me I'd better not leave Canada for the next few years because I have only a few months left before I cannot meet the residency obligations. They told me that, even thought I got in this time, next time border officer may stop me from entering Canada. Also, when I renew my PR card, I would also have troubles since I stay outside Canada for too long. They said that my problem is that I leave a margin that is too small.

I wonder if what they say is true? I understand that I spent about 2 years and 4 months outside Canada since I landed. Does it mean that I should avoid taking vacations away from Canada at all? And would I have troubles renewing my PR card if eventually I am in Canada for 2 years during the first 5 years since landed?

You can take the vacations you have planned. Your friends are being unduly cautious.

And to add that as a PR you are always entitled to enter the country whether your PR card has expired or even if you reached the point of failing the RO, even though with the latter you could be reported you would still be allowed in.. So your friends are wrong there as well.
