A5 (self employed, unemployment or travel) is always RQ?

Hello All,

I am new to this form, and I am following some topics here. I am really surprised about the RQ process.

I have applied citizenship in august 2013 and my file has been transferred to local office this month. Now, I am reading all the RQ topics and looks I will get RQ because of A5 RQ indicator. I have entered all my info and dates correct. In 4 years:

1. I have been worked as self employed last 3 years
2. I was unemployed couple months
3. I travelled to USA (business and vacation) and my home country 10 times:)

Looks I will really get RQ before or after test. I do not have any chance to not get RQ?:) Everybody is getting RQ if they are self-employed, unemployed and travel a lot?

Should I really start to prepare my documentation? What documentation do you suggest?

Thanks in advance..

These days CIC is issuing a new version of form call CIT-520 with specific and multiple documents from the list: Notice of Assessment, All copies of passport, Residence lease/mortgage, Medical Records (request from health dept), Travel record from USA border agency, Bank & credit card statements, Others (depend on CIC). So, you may have to gather all the documents in advance specially CBSA report from US border which takes longer..

Rayman_M, thanks for your reply. But I haven't heard anything from CIC yet. My file has just been transferred to local office, is that early to request the documentation. There is no any date restrictions on the documentations?

So you are thinking, %100 chance I will get RQ?

One thing is sure. You passed the first selection stage which is done at Sydney and you didn't get a Pre-test RQ. Now the next step is to be invited to the test/interview. That doesn't mean though that you're safe. If during the interview the agent is not convinced that you've been in Canada for at least 1095 days or if something doesn't make sense in your file or if during the pre test review of the file the agent has any concern about your credibility, you may still get an RQ during or few weeks after the test. My advice, be prepared to answer all kinds of questions(you may wanna read treads about interview questions...) and have all documents ready in case they need to see them during the interview.

Not necessarily....self employeement alone not a factor, however unemployement with travel is one of the factor one may receive RQ, here is the operational manual states procedure to determine RQ indicators, again - as a general rule anybody can receive RQ anytime before Oath due to Quality audit/check.

Are you single or married with Children?

Goldline, thanks a lot for your reply. Do you mean Pre-test RQ is sent from only from Sdyney? not from local office?

Yes, I am preparing all the documentations just in case. I have been contractor last 3 years, so I have year based contracts, I am planning to get the letter from my project managers. I will apply CBSA now. I have car leases and financing, all the Notice of assessments.. I could also provide Bank statements

I do not have any rent agreements except last year. I was sharing the house with a friend and we did not do anything like agreement with him. Do you think that is big issue?

Pretest RQ may be issued even after local office transfer, there is no hard and fast rule that is should only come from Sydney. However Sydney make sures that everything in order and can be processed further at respective local offices...this is my understanding based on other cases and responses in this forum.

That's exactly what I meant by :" that doesn't mean you're safe....if.......you may still get an RQ"

I am preparing myself anyway, no other option:) I hope CIC could understand the process is giving hard time to the applicant and not efficient.
