Guys

I am in a shocking state for last two hours... I am about to land in Canada after two days and every thing is booked..but one mof my friend in Canada just told me that CIC has changed the rules for landing from September 1 , 2010. According to these new landing rules , if you are having another country residency ( like UAE or KSA residency ) , you have now to cancel it as a process of landing.

If this is the case , that's the end... As i had a plan to land in Canada and stay there for 15 days and then come back and then go back there again after 1-2 years permenantly. I did not wind up every thing in UAE, not resigned , not sold my car etc...How CIC can change this rule so quickly... it is a major change!!

I still suspect the source of information , as on CIC web site and on forums , nothing similar is mentioned.. please advice , as i am still in shocking state and want an immediate help on this subject.

Thanks in advance!!

That's COMPLETELY wrong.

From the date you land, you must live in Canada for 2 years out of every 5 to maintain your permanent residency status, but other than that you may return back to your home country after landing and sort out your affairs.

Ask your "friend" where the source if this information was from?

Hey,

Thanks for reply.. when you say " you may return to your home country" for settlement of affairs... but what if i am not living in my home country .. for example I am not a UAE national but do have a valid UAE residency and job there? can i still return back ?

I also believe in the same which you have mentioned ... but my friend has really confused me by saying that they are cancelling other residency permits on landing... But anyhow i am bit relaxed and now try to find out his source of information....

In any case , many thanks again for help

no country ask you to surrender your any residency status of any country,
in your case... at this time you are citizen of some 'x' country and working in UAE thats it..

CIC is not inrested at this time to surrender your residency or citizenship.

Once you have canadain passport/citizenship, then only and that your country 'x' will ask you to surrender the passport and not the CIC

you should feel relax and paln your trip with no mental stress...

have a safe flight

Hi Aix_tiger,
We do not get any news by word of month , there should be a link with the information to make it valid. So do not worry ask your friend to send the link to you.

Wish you have a safe journey.

Hi aix_tiger,

The news is baseless and unfounded.Canada cannot introduce such a significant change to immigration rules without announcement in the media.

We will need the veracity of this information from your friend.

We shall be waiting for your detailed landing experience.

Cheers
