A few questions

I am going to be applying soon and just have a few questions

1. Medicals: Do I need to do them before I send in the application? The nearest physician is pretty far from me, and money is tight since my husband is on disability, so I really do not want to have to take these twice. Can I send in my application without a medical and then get one once I am prompted by CIC to do so?

2. Related to the question above.. when do they prompt you for the medical exam? I am also going to be applying for a work permit with the application, so will I not be able to get issued an open work permit before I take my medicals?

Thanks!

You are supposed to do the medical before you submit the application. If you submit your application without the medical and wait until they ask for it, you can expect the processing of your application to experience some delays.

Hey and welcome

1. Simple answer yes. You can risk it without doing them but you do run a high risk of having your application returned incomplete and sent to the back of the line in processing. Also you should not have to do them twice depending on your VO (If it is one with a long wait time then maybe you will). Just do them as close to submission as possible, like a week or so before package is ready for mailing.

2. As I suggested they may/ may not ask you for a medical, if they deem your application incomplete it will be returned and also affect your processing times (several people have had this happen). You say your applying for a work permit with the application? You are filing an inland application?

If you file your application and include an application for an OWP. You will obtain the permit at the end of stage 1 processing. (currently 6 months I believe). There is no way to get a quicker work permit unless you find a job that offers you a LMO.

Ah okay.

Another question:
If I apply for the loan of the Right to Be a Permanent Resident fee, do I send that with the initial application as well?

Yes, and that only covers 475 of the 1040 so you'd still have to pay for 565 of the fees :)

Right before you submit. Medicals and PCCs have time limits so you want to extend the time as much as possible. Your medicals expire after a year and they are not cheap!

Ok, so I'll go late September/early October. I have to go to Brookline,MA. Do make an appointment in advance? If yes, when should I? I already have the forms printed. Once I file, and while processing my application, my medicals stay valid? Or did I understand that wrong? Thanks so much. I will do what I have to but I'd like to save multiple 3 hr drives. ( Yes that is the closest office. I live in rural Vermont.)

Yes you would make an appt in advance. Your medical exams are valid for one year after you get them done. Nothing major, they are checking for HIV, TB, Hepatitis..anything that would be a burden to Canada's healthcare. If you are applying outbound your meds should be good and hold you through the whole process so you wouldn't have to get them twice. Don't forget to bring the form to the DR with you, when you make the appt he will let you know what else you needs ie pictures, passport etc I understand the rural VT thing, I grew up in rural NH :) Good luck!

Cool. I
l will make an appointment after Christmas and set it as far out as I can. Or at least look into it as I am sure they are busy. Thanks. The small town thing is wonderful but can also be a royal pain. ;)

Another note - the forms are bound to change by the time you apply. Make sure you have the most updated ones next November!
