Both my wife and I want to become Canadian citizens. I am IT support specialist and my wife has been working for Ford Motor Credit for 14 years now different rolls from manger to CSR and everything in between. I have read that we would also need to live in Canada for 3 years before we would be able to apply for citizen, one big concern I have is that with my family is heath care. We will be giving up are insurance with are companies to move to Canada what will happen if my son or wife gets hurt or ill?

Also what would be the best avenue to obtain are goal of becoming Canadian?

Thank you,
Mark

First you have to immigrate to Canada and become a Permanent Resident.

Then you have to meet physical residency of at least 3 years in order to apply for citizenship.

There is no direct path, first immigrate then become citizen.

Hello,

I don't know if you are aware, but you receive healthcare in Canada as a permanent resident also. You do not have to wait the time to become a citizen to obtain it. Depending on which province you would be living in, it takes usually around 3 months of residency as a legal permanent resident to qualify for healthcare.

Good luck with your process.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi Mark, first you have to immigrate. Check out http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp to see if you qualify for something there. If not, you could start off on a work permit. Could your wife transfer to Ford Credit Canada? Might either of you fall under a NAFTA profession, see http://www.canadavisa.com/nafta-temporary-work-permit-canada.html ? That would make getting a work permit easier.

If one of you gets a job and a work permit, it would be tied to the employer but the other spouse would be able to get an open work permit. Even temporary workers in Canada are covered by health care so no worries if you get injured or sick. Once you get your permanent residency, you would have to live in Canada for 3 years to be able to apply for citizenship.
