Hello dear members
I have a citizenship related question.

I am about to ask a major stupid question but please bear with me. Premise- I was a student from September 2007 to August 2015 on student visa. i went back to my home country for more than 4&half years. I landed back in Canada October end 2019 as a temporary visitor. I changed my status by flagpoling to PR status on December 24th 2019. I would be meeting '2 years' residency requirement on dec 24th 2021. I know that as a temporary resident, you can count each day stayed in CANADA as half a day towards Canadian Citizenship. Would I be able to apply for Canadian citizenship on 24th december 2021 because i think i would have got 3 years residency towards my citizenship by then->> by adding all temporary visit (half a day) residencies to my 2 year of PR physical residency.

Also, would immigration exempt me on compassionate grounds if i have permanent mental disability from strict residency rules? I have medical documents from 2014 that i have severe adhd.

please someone shed some light on this matter. thanks

The eligibility period covers only the last 5 years from the date you sign your application, for example if you sign your application today, your eligibility period will be Aug 05th 2016/ Aug 05th 2021. Any time you spent in Canada before Aug 5th 2016 is irrelevant. If you didn't spend time with a valid status in Canada between 2016 and the day you landed as PR then you can't claim a temporary resident time.
Sorry I can't answer your second question and will leave this to other members.

Good luck

There are no exemptions to the residency requirement on compassionate grounds.

No, you won't qualify to apply in December 2021. As said above, only the previous five years is considered when you apply for citizenship. So your time spent in Canada from 2007 to 2015 cannot be counted towards the residency requirement. You'll get around 1 month credit for the time you spent in Canada as a visitor from October to December of 2019. The rest will have to be post-PR time. Assuming you don't leave Canada, you'll qualify to apply sometime around November 2022.
