6 month stay in Canada, help?

So in a couple of weeks I am flying to Canada from the UK with my husband (a canadian citizen on a visa in the UK) to visit for 6 months, see some sights and visit my inlaws, we are staying with them in their house (return flight booked for March). While on my visitor visa in Canada im hoping to apply Outland for a spouse visa and extend my visitors visa when I need to and wait out the process there. What do I tell the border people if the ask? Do i tell them im just visiting and then apply or tell them I will probably apply and then return to the UK to sort out things there but just extend my visa? Are they likely to ask me a lot of questions since im staying 6 months? If so what?

I'm also worried about the amount of stuff i am taking with me. A lot of it is clothes and shoes, but there is photo albums/frames and stuff we have got over our relationship (letters, pictures, little things), and my wedding dress which are mainly to show his parents who couldnt make it to the wedding. I also have a couple of candle things and owl ornaments, dvds (which are actually my husbands), books and make up stuff. We have a 2 free bag allowence with the airline we're flying with and its split between both of our bags. Should this make them question me?

I have a clean criminal record and i've never overstayed visas in the past or anything like that.

Sorry if this is a really silly question, I just want to know what to expect and plan ahead and make sure I dont get turned away at the border! Thank you in advance :)

It is not guaranteed that you will get 6 months. Get a changeable ticket. It needs to look like you are not going to be live here. If you want more time apply for an extension and you will have implied status until it is either granted or rejected.

You need to make sure that you don't look like you are moving to Canada to stay permanently.

I dont think it looks like im moving to Canada, hopfully they will see it the same way! I've tried to just pack things you would take if you were visiting somewhere for 6 months and I have a return ticket booked and a credit card with a decent limit if they ask about money (even though his parents will be paying for my expenses during the time).

Does anyone have any good advice?

Hi,

not to be rude, but what you think doesnt matter, what matters is how the border agent see it, sorry.
I know people that got refused at the border, not fun at all.
As for money, a credit card is not consider as money or asset.
They have no way to know if the credit card is full or empty.
pack cleverly, not personal items like albums and such, will always be time to get those later and buy what ever else you might need once you are here, like this no one will thing you plan to stay.
