42 years old developer(IT)-Best options for immigration? Study permit or PNP route?

Hello everyone,
I am 42 years old software engineer(mainframe developer) from India and looking for ways to immigrate to Canada with my family(2 kids). My wife is also of similar age and work experience(IT).
I have just started researching on this subject and would really appreciate help from fellow members here.

CRS calculator shows eligibility scores around 370 and PNP eligibility is 68 points.

After consulting with multiple visa consultants, i am even more confused now, as some consultant advised me on PNP route whereas, others are suggesting the study permit route.
My wife will be applying for SOWP(study permit route) and she can work and also I can see lot of developer jobs in Ontario and Manitoba.
NOC code that matches our profession is 2174 and 2171.

Any suggestions please.

Best option for you wil be pnp route.my reasoning are as follows..
1.Since ur ultimate goal is settling down in Canada,why not get settled on day 1 itself ..i mean by pnp u r in CAN on day 1 as a PR. Whereas the route is too long for study permit holder.
2.Studying in canada is possible at any age ..bit you need to justify ur reasons for studies to VO which might be tough since u have a long career.
3.If u score 68 points in pnp u have very good chance to get into pnp.
4.why waste thousands of dollar on study just for the Pr..where u have a better chance of getting it without wasting tens of thousands of dollar...

What PNP program are you referring to with 68? Every province has a program.

So you have completed IELTS and ECA, and are eligible for Express Entry.

Study permit at your age (unless doing a Masters or Ph.D.) is not guaranteed as you have to justify costs by showing career and educational advancement. Also, your family not coming with is guaranteed. And then PR is not a given after studying and working in Canada.

Which PNP would you qualify for, at your age?

Does your work at an MNC? You could try for an intra-company transfer if they have operations in Canada. That would actually be the most straightforward route. If you have significant experience in IT/tech then you could try applying to Canadian companies who'll sponsor you under th Global Talent Stream which is feasible for those in tech. Just search LinkedIn and Indeed for "LMIA" or "GTS".

Third option is a study permit but there are a good chances of refusal at your age, especially if you apply with your wife. What's your educational background? Have you done master's? You'll have to think carefully about which course you're going to choose.

The general strategy of study permit applicants of your age is to apply alone and apply for visas for spouse and kids after reaching Canada and spending a few months there.

Thank you very much for replying. Yes i currently work at an MNC but clients are European companies, so intra-transfer to Canada is not possible. Job search does not have option with LMIA(atleast for now).
I have done Bachelor of Engineering(B.E) in Electronics. No masters unfortunately. I was looking for courses related to project management or some diploma related to my technical skills.

You need to figure out if you are:

• even eligible for Express Entry based on age, education (ECA), IELTS and work experience (given your age, you may not and education may not be)
  • If not, then you have few options since you would want a job offer, learn French
  • If eligible, then research PNP programs
• Will studying in Canada, give you a high enough score to get PR
  • You need to plan that your family may not receive visas and you study and work in Canada without them. It is not guaranteed.

This is the fast route in my opinion, family can come later once you get the visa. Things will work out but there is always risk of visa rejection, we have to live with it.

So even best option is company transfer but as always we need to be lucky for that. LMIA is also there if you have very special skill sets.

I suggest Europe also, there are more jobs for IT there. Not sure if you want to go to Europe, personally I dont like it but now its in my Plan B as study visa is getting little complicated at 37 years in Canada for me!
