So my first 2 year visa ended but i wanted to travel so i applied for a tourist visa. It ends on April.

I have decided i wanted to apply for another 2 year work visa (applied before 2015 so it gives me a second) but the problem is i just applied and the processing times for IEC are 8 weeks - the exact time when my tourist visa ends....

I am unsure what my next step is.... do i wait up until April to see if it arrives in time to apply for.

Will i need to leave the country and apply from outside ? Im so confused

You may get your permit sooner - traditionally they turn them around pretty quickly, especially as you have been approved previously.

If it is not approved in time, I would recommend that you leave Canada the day before your tourist permit expires and wait for approval elsewhere. Otherwise you will have overstayed your current permit and the CBSA can technically deny your next IEC.

Good excuse for a trip to Vegas or a week on the beach in Mexico.

If your approval comes before your tourist permit expires, you still need to leave and re-enter to activate the next permit. Depending on where you are this is as easy as a trip to the nearest border

Thank you for a fast reply. I just applied yesterday so im in the pool and have no been accepted to start the application, if i do get accepted and apply for a 2nd work visa will i not be in "applied status " or do i definetely have to leave if its not approved before the tourist runs out?

Implied status relates to permit to permit. You are on a visitor visa.

For example, if you were on an IEC permit currently and had submitted your application (not just in the pool) you would be considered to be in implied status.

There is a large grey area over IEC permits and implied status to begin with, if you go to the letter of the law, they do not qualify.

1 more question, would i be able to just extend my tourist visa while waiting and then leave once its approvedim and come through the border again ? im not sure i like the idea of leaving the country and waiting as all my stuff is here so if i get denied i dont want to be in a shit situation
