20 hour limit when working on-campus and off-campus at the same time?

I just started my first semester in Canada and the work limit hours are a little unclear to me. I know I only can get an off-campus work permit after 6 months of studying in Canada and there is a limit of 20 hours a week during the semester (and full time is OK during holidays). However, what is the weekly work hour limit for working on-campus?

Let's say in 6 months' time when I get my off campus WP and assuming I've got a part-time on-campus job, will I be able to work both on-campus and off-campus jobs simultaneously? What is the weekly work hour limit? Would it be 20 for on-campus + 20 for off-campus OR is it a single 20 hour limit that is shared between both on/off campus jobs?

Thanks in advance for sharing any experience and advice.

This is what CIC says on their website about work permit and hours: (sorry don't know yet how to quote...)

"Although there is no legislation or policy preventing students from working 20 hours a week on campus and 20 hours a week off-campus, DIRs should discourage students from working more than 20 hours a week, reminding them that they must study full-time and maintain satisfactory academic standing in order to remain eligible for the program."

Hope that helps!

Great...@live_dream - that very well explains the process. Purpose is to keep students focused on studies than work, hence 20 hours cap. But if you are lucky enough to find an on campus and then off campus job and if it doesn't deviate your concentration from studies, then go for it.

On campus jobs are usually limited and your hours are based on your class schedule (you have to provide proof that you are not picking up shifts during classes). Also expect your hours to be limited to a max as on-campus jobs are highly desirable and to make it fair to others, the shift hours are split up.

Off-campus, you have to be accountable for your hours as sometimes employers don't know about 20 hour limit or dont keep track of it. so you can work more than 20 hours and then blame your employer if you get caught.

It would be very difficult to work both on and off campus while taking a full course load. You will burn out. All that money spent on your "education" will be of waste if you cant learn anything because you are too busy working.

I would suggest pick the hours that allow you time to focus on your education and some time for relaxing. This is probably the best time of your life to enjoy and you wont get it back. You have your entire life to work.
