2 critical questions on POF

I have 2 questions, let me tell the scenario first,

My wife's original name is 'Mani' (she did not put a last name in official documents).. We got married in 2013 when she changed her name to 'Mani Chhabra' in all official documents.. In 2014, she created a Fixed Deposit with her name as only 'Mani' on the FD document..

1st question: Can I use this FD as a proof of fund (considering FD has her first name only)?? If yes, do I need to attach any additional document to it??

2nd question: Do I need to prove that where did this money came from as it has been more than 2.5 years now?? Also, this FD is due to mature in 6 months time.. I read in different posts that funds available for past 6 months should be fine as it is..

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with this.. Also, it would be great if you can share some link where some official detail of POF is given which I can relate to my concern..

You can attach either MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE or AFFIDAVIT. I wanna suggest you, if you can get the name change in the bank account itself and then get a statement issued (with new name on it).

2nd question: Do I need to prove that where did this money came from as it has been more than 2.5 years now?? Also, this FD is due to mature in 6 months time.. I read in different posts that funds available for past 6 months should be fine as it is. No need to worry about specifying the source of money.

Thanks for your reply.. Changing the name at this point of time is very difficult as we are residing in UK and account/ FD is in india however; we do have our marriage certificate with us.. Would that be enough to prove the name change?? Also, we would attach a LOE for the same..

So, we don't need to state the proof of source as it is an old Fixed deposit.. Are you confident about this?? As these are past savings so would be difficult to collect those documents as well..


By any chance, do we have any authorised link where we get details on POF which states the T&C's for POF.. Or is it just with experience that we understand how to face such situations??

Did you get ppr with the fd that was 2.5 years old?
