hello guys, ,
my friend has completed 2 yrs program in 16 months without break,,,,there are rumors that 16 month program will get 16 month pgwp,,,,is that true,,,,plz clarify this confusion,,,,thanx...

i don't think its true. studying one year in school means 8month in full-time student and 4 month for break. you have done straight 16 month in a class means you have done 2 years program. and also eventhough you get only 16 month of PGWP, still able to extend. i believe up to 3years.

yeah,,i think its true..i have also heard this from some guys..but not have professional hearing..hope to hear from someone professional here.

He'll probably get a 3 year PGWP. CIC indicates that they will issue a PGWP coinciding with the length of time a person studied, however, because it was a 2 year program, I've seen them issue PGWPs relating to the length of the program. A PGWP cannot be extended. A person must apply for a new WP under other conditions (LMO, PNP, etc.) when the PGWP expires if they wish to continue working in Canada.

So what is it a 16 month PGWP after 16 months of study or a three year PGWP after 16 months of study. Or just random basis what they feel like that day

No, not random. 16 months is typically for a 2 year program (8 months per year). The language says the permit will be issued for the "length of study" but it's being applied as the length as the program.

I think it does depend on them. Look what they say here in this link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

A work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program cannot be valid for longer than the student's study program. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months.

Note: In some circumstances, the work permit may be valid for less time than the length of your studies.

Boy is this confusing....
