I certainly hope not. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best candidates to immigrate, and only those that will benefit Canada. The prime minister's job is to serve Canadians, not foreign immigrants.

Sure they are. We have people going from application to permanent residency in around 105 days. That's ridiculously fast.

There are backlogs of hundreds of thousands of applicants from the old system (up to a max of nearly a million at one point, if I remember correctly). Wait times were multiple years. Some people waited up to 8 years.

They had to clamp things down, or it would have gotten worse.

If they hadn't changed the programs, we would be looking at a 15 year wait for FSW:

Instead, we're nearly halfway through:

Kateg that you benefitted or that the process is now fast does not exonerate the wickedness of the current Govt.In the process of arriving at the current situation they dashed the hope of many potential Immigrant who after waiting patiently on the queue for many years woke up one day to find out that their application of many years had been cancelled by Ministerial fiat and many unfortunately are no longer qualified under the current prog.Back log was not caused by Potential Immigrant but by govt Policies snd immigrant should not be made to pay for it.

I benefitted from the system because the system is good. The system would be good whether or not I benefitted from it.

Had they left things alone, there would have been a 15 year backlog for new applicants this year. This is absurd.

As you said, many people waited for years and years. They have old applications, and may now have criminal convictions, changes to their proof of funds, family changes, etc. It doesn't make sense to leave those old applications in the queue. They may no longer be interested in coming, and may have moved on with their lives. If their application is approved, those who won't come just waisted their money.

If they re-apply, they can provide current information, and still get permanent residency faster than if they had waited.. Yes, some of them are no longer eligible. That means that there is a more qualified candidate ready, willing, and able to come. Canada owes them nothing. They applied for a chance at immigration, and that chance did not work out.

I'm an immigrant. You're an immigrant. Our countries owe a duty of care towards us. No other country does. If they choose to make an offer, we have the option of accepting it. They are under no obligation to offer, and we are under no obligation to accept.
