#1 - You can always contact your previous empl and tell them what you need and why you need, I am also from India and did same thing with my previous employers.. and they did it with no issues / concerns.
From current employer... just tell them you need to apply for Canada visa ( don't tell them PR, if they ask in detail u can tell u want to apply for tourist visa) and tell them it is visa office requirement, it worked in my case ( atleast you can give a try)

#2-better to have some certification which are accepted globally PMI, Sun,ITIL,IBM....., it is not easy to get job if you are not in Canada. Once you got PR, take a break (vacation, don't leave your current job) land in Canada and start applying for jobs, it will give you idea and if you are lucky enough you might get job soon... ( also if your current company has presence in canada it is good for you always explore that option)

above all it all individual's luck !!!

good luck

I can but i'm not sure how responsive and timely they would be. Of course i'm assuming the worst and i might be wrong here. One of my employers HP, haven't even given my Form 16 for one of the financial years!! In case there's no headway through this approach, is it permissible to get the reference letters from someone who was not my reporting manager?

mm, this seems to be the safest option, especially after reading Josh's thread here. Assuming you are already in canada, is this how you landed your first job there? How long did it take for you? I understand it depends on the individual, job profile etc but an example wouldn't hurt.

All in all, from what i read here it looks like its a big risk to go ahead with it. Of course, since the stakes and potential rewards are high, one does need to stomach the risks. Tough call and this forum seems to be helpful to raise important questions and answers to those.

Hi All,

I'm an IT Infrastructure Project Management and ITIL Service Management professional with 9 yrs of exp. I have completed both ITIL v2 and v3 Foundation certificates. I just thought I would let you know if you are also into ITIL related fields. There is a group called ITSMF which is an international body of ITIL professionals. it would be good to register with them as well.

http://www.itsmf.ca

ITSMF is one of the groups mentioned under the SFIA list and they are also the group which contributes to the ITIL Body of Knowledge.

Just my 2 cents worth!

All the best and God Bless

Cheers,
Rishab
rishab very helpful post. Looks like ITIL is pretty accepted certification in canada. can we go straight for ITIL v3 certification or we have to complete v2 first.

Currently i am working in a global firm as a project manager performing all the required roles and responsibilities under 0213 category. But my designation is a Team Leader.
If your roles and responsibilities match the requirement of 0123 (and you are able to prove it), then the designation of a Team Lead will not be an issue. Note that you will have to prove that you and in a *0123* role for at least the last one year.
Thanks, shareit for your reply.

Need some more info,

What is required to prove that my roles and responsibilities match the requirement of 0123 ?
What is required to prove that i am in *0123* role for at least the last one year ?
How much score i can get for my education?

Thanks

@leoenjoys

you don't need any proof for the initial application. just list down ur job responsibilities on the application form if they match NOC 0213.
For the second stage, you'll need an employer's letter (current and previous) to prove your work duration and your work responsibilities during that time.

according to my understanding, you don't have to be on a job while applying to canada. you just need to have 1 year experience in one of the 38 jobs in last 10 years. in addition to that you have to score enough points in work experience section to get 67 points (4 year experience will give u maximum points)

if you ave reference letters from ur previous employers than its fine. make sure ur job duties r defined in detail. proof of work experience is specific to a visa office. consult the requirement of ur visa office to see what exactly they want as a proof of employment (payslips etc.)

Hi yesIcan,

sorry for the late reply....you can do ITIL v3 directly, actually v2 has been phased out so even if you want you cannot do it now, but I had completed my v2 long back and to stay up to date I wrote my v3 also. SFIA is a NGO SFIA=Skills Framework for the Information Age. They are a british organisation which analyses and advises the level of IT skills required for britain and the commonwealth, they are not a certification authority, but more like a giverning or advisory body similiar to ITSMF. their website is www.sfia.org.uk check there for more details.

All the Best & God Bless
Cheers,
Rishab
