What is the acknowledgment date I see in the posts here? Is it the date I can start tracking using the file number in https://ociservices.gov.in/ ?

This does not seem to be right. I did the same and got back from BLS and they mentioned that I should use my old name (As per Indian Passport) for Surrender certificate and the new name(As per Canadian Passport) for OCI.

Hi guys. I recieved my surrender certificate from BLS. Its just a print out stapled out to the last page of my passport. Should i leave it that way or can take and keep the printed out page separate so that its not damaged or lost?

In OCI Registration under "Applicant's Passport Details" it says to enter as per Indian Passport in the instructions PDF. Should this section contain my Indian Passport Number or Canadian ?

No need to surrender for E-Visa

Why do you want to travel with Indian passport after getting Canadian passport? Getting an e-visa is easy and travel on that will be the optimal way for you. Then you can surrender your Indian passport while in India and apply for OCI once back.

Land in Canada. Open up a bank account and then wire the amount from your existing Indian bank. As long as you provide the necessary documents to the Indian bank you wouldn't taxed on the amount. Make sure your Indian account is changed to NRO before you do the transfer.

Congrats. Good that you took my advice for a Passport office :) Now on to the Surrender thread. I have my appointment on Jun 22. Fingers crossed they accept it in the first go.

I know I will have to get it in the 2* 2 dimension but is there a 6 month requirement similar to Passport? Also the total count is 2 for SC+ OCI right?

Can I use the same pics I used for my citizenship application if it was taken in Jan 2024. Also as far as the checklist I would need 1 physical photo for Surrender Certificate and 1 physical photo for OCI. Can any one confirm that 2 photos is the total count needed for Surrender and OCI?

Mine was delivered today but not any refund yet. I see that it's automatic and will come as a separate cheque if at all it's applicable. Probably others with experience on it can put some light on the same.

Was it May 27 or Apr 27? Apr 27 seems to be way out of timeline for a 10 day processing.

Applied on Apr 29 with no updates. Called on Friday and asked for expedited processing as out of processing timeline but they cannot guarantee anything.
