    US Applicants

Hi Matt, Americans do not (in normal times) require a visa to enter Canada. We just need a passport. We can also (before COVID) apply for study and work permits at the border. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/apply.html

complete study permit delay fall 2020

My understanding is that they are issuing AIP for both. And they will likely not issue final approvals until at least January from the gentleman I spoke with at PHAC (federal hotline for the agency that oversees Quarantine Act).

Has anyone crossed the border yet for Fall20 semester?

I've been trying. :) I'm sure they are absolutely swamped with all of the COVID-related policies and procedures though. I will keep trying. Nothing else to do really :)

Has anyone crossed the border yet for Fall20 semester?

It sounded like entry was exempted from the US if the reason was for an essential purpose and that studying was deemed to be an essential purpose. AIP letters specifically state "While you await a final decision on your application you may commence your studies online". If one is not able to...

If so, did you have final study permit approval or were you able to do it with AIP? Any info greatly appreciated.

AIP & crossing border as US citizen?

I’m sure there is a lot of confusion across the board on policy, procedure, and (yes) terminology. I mean, this is all major new policy rollout in a matter of weeks/ a few short months where generally new policy takes years to draft and roll out. I am using the term AIP because that is the term...

AIP & crossing border as US citizen?

I did read the words on the letter. It specifically states that "...you may begin studies..." Is there something else that is being issued as a successful completion of the first step? My understanding was that AIP was granted if you passed the first step.

    Clearing customs?

I guess what I really need to know is how detailed I need to be in the content listings.Example, in a box of home office supplies, do I need to list “home office supplies, value CAD: $40” or do I need to itemize each #2 pencil and Post-It note pack?

    Clearing customs?

What has everyone’s experience been with this? We will be taking a UHaul and driving across when we land (temporary residency). I am trying to plan everything to minimize contact and maximize efficiency for the Border Agent. I am not sure what to expect or what the process is. Any advice or...

AIP & crossing border as US citizen?

So the first stage letter that says you can begin your studies is not an AIP? My immigration attorney said that it is very rare to be rejected if you pass the first stage. What am I missing?

Time between AIP & final approval (USA)?

Has anyone gotten both their AIP (and) final approval (from USA)? If so, when did you apply, when did you receive AIP, and when did you get final approval?

AIP & crossing border as US citizen?

Has anyone successfully crossed the border with an approval in principal letter? Semester starts September 14th. I am a mature student with a child and am renting a house in Canada (lease started August 1st). I need time to settle in and unpack and do need to be in Canada to pursue my program...
