Based on what I've seen in this website, You can defer your arrival without any problem. You just have to get the LOA for that session and also a Valid reason if you were asked why you deferred?

some say apply separately if you are not confident, others say apply for visit visa for both of them (when your husband arrived, it is easy to get Open work permit). i'm also trying to find what to do

correct me if i am wrong, you applied separately for study permit, then you got your (study permit + visa), after that you applied to your husband an open work permit, and got approved, now you want to apply to your 2.5 year old daughter?
