If you want to be 100% safe, apply for extension anyway. Some people have had their OWP application returned months later, rendering them out of status even if they sent it in before their status expired.

It was updated when they sent me the PPR, then after I sent in the passport my progress bar becomes 100% complete and Final Decision says Approved.

They were very fast for me. AOR2 Sept, biometrics + PCC request Oct along with pre arrival, a week after biometrics done got DM and PPR (november).

The first option is inland, the second option is outland. You're correct that applying outland (option 2) may require you to attend an interview outside Canada (and take biometrics outside Canada).

I applied outland while being in Canada. There is a box in the document checklist you can check specifically for this. All the forms are the same otherwise.
