    You have to surrender all your licenses in Alberta once you pass the written test. In my case that included an international license, expired license and current license from my country. I had an abstract that I also submitted and within a week was told I was exempted from the GDL requirements...

    My daughter was born in Ontario. We left the country when she was 3 months. We moved to Alberta (she is now 4) after I got PPR. Her Ontario health card was automatically cancelled once I applied for her Alberta Health Card. To date I have not been asked to pay anything.

    The settlement question is routine. You can legitimately settle in one province and get a job offer in another the following week...So what if you leave? You simply cancel the card and apply for another in the province you are heading to.

    I am in Alberta (Edmonton). You get your health card instantly. It took 3 days to be mailed to my address. I recommend you have your child in Canada.
