    November 2024 - Citizenship Applications

I had a lot of day trips to the US, and as a US citizen, I'm not eligible for an I-94. Thankfully, I had no interview or questions about that.

Random thought that made me come here since I was planning some trip. I had a side thought of "oh I better update my spreadsheet" and immediately realized I no longer have to. Isn't it (and for future recipients, won't it be) so nice to not have to track days for PR or citizenship anymore? Not...

Order notes from CSIS if you got them from IRCC. Probably won’t find out anything new though. Just have to wait.

Do send me a PM after your interview if I don't reply/react here. I'm sure your invite will happen soon after. Congrats (I hope)! You're one of the most active people in this thread. I'm glad to see you nearing the end!

Update (probably final). My wife received her passport after many complications due to it. We are both finally done with both citizenship and passport. We are currently in the USA for probably the next 5 years or so. My intention is to move back to Toronto at that time.

I'm probably mostly done with this thread, the October thread, and this board/site in general. If anyone needs me in the future, feel free to send me a DM and I should get an email. However, now my wife and I are both citizens after doing PR many years ago, I have a passport, and her...

I thought you said you were advised by IRCC they could split the applications already per your request. I didn't know you had to give a reason. I also don't know where you're from, but I know a lot on this board are Indian. Is there somewhere you need to travel that is visa-free for Canada but...

That's a good point. I was referring to the clock not stopping on PR RO days, and you do have to be a PR at the time of the citizenship oath. You're also probably right on the lawyerly argument of "accompanying", but it's still probably safest that he acquire citizenship "now" with a...

You have to be a PR and maintain your RO until you take the oath. Same thing with your prohibitions, etc. The clock doesn't stop.

I would say the easiest, safest thing to do would be to separate the applications, get your citizenship, hopefully soon. Do a day trip with her once you are a citizen. She has then left Canada, "accompanying a citizen-spouse". You would think by the "letter of the law" she accrues PR days from...

We also intend to return, but it might be a few years. It sounds like you have a good reason to separate. You might want to double check the PR days thing with a competent legal source. I read something the other day that made me question what I thought. It was someone who was a PR, moved away...

If you're living permanently in Canada, and you don't have an urgent need for a Canadian passport for visa-free travel, I'd probably keep them together so you can celebrate in a ceremony together. We submitted separately about 11 days apart, but our ceremonies were 4 months apart. We are...

Back from the trip with my wife to Calgary for her ceremony. Sent off the passport application by mail while we were there (to be delivered to the USA).

Request GCMS from CBSA, not IRCC. Then read them. That's the most info you'll get. If there's nothing there, you wait until appropriate to file a writ of mandamus (after 1-1.5 years or so talk to an attorney).

Most people seem to receive it same-day, but it took me many days. I think it was like 6 days or something. I was sweating bullets. What I did that made me feel better was raise a web form and attach it. That timestamps it that you did it within the 48 hours. I would personally encourage you to...

I'm concerned about the IDs to bring to my wife's ceremony. When she got her US driver's license when we moved, she gave them her Alberta license for some reason. We didn't have to do this, since we already had Texas licenses that had been expired less than a year, and we were just renewing...

Similar question for recent oath invitees: how long between the tracker updating and actually receiving the oath invite email, especially for Calgary?
