Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

Well this wasn't what I expected. I scanned my passport and declaration at a kiosk upon arrive at YVR and presented the printout to a border agent. He glanced at my passport for less than a second and said "have a nice day." I went to get my luggage - thinking that there would a more formal...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

One last question - do I present my TRP application to the first agent I encounter, or only bring it up if I am challenged? (I've finished compiling my application and added comparison of Canadian Statutes with those I was charge and sentenced under and was surprised to see how much more...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

Thank you. I think I have everything I need. I got a letter of reference from my boss, explaining the reasons for my trip and that my offense was found to be an anomaly. I have documents showing completion of all elements of my sentence, and documents showing the dispositions of the other two...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

Yes, from US. Meeting was supposed to be in the spring, but it was moved forward, so I have no choice except to apply at airport.

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

I am travelling next week. Meeting was scheduled with not enough lead-time to apply for TRP through Consulate, so I am going to take my chances at airport. Has anyone applied for a TRP at Port-of-Entry?

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

True - it sounds like a lot, but when I added up how much time I put into this before surrendering, it's not bad. Plus, I suspect using a lawyer makes a big difference in the final result, as the system is-the-way-it-is because of the profit motive.

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

How much was lawyer, if I may ask? 70 pages for a speeding ticket? Yea, nothing broken about that system...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

I read on another lawyer's site that "expedited" processing is only for athletes and entertainers. Piecing things together from various sources it looks like the reality is that the TRP System costs way more to administer than it brings in, and that Border/Immigration aren't big fans of using it...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

Yes - please keep us posted. The two questions no one can answer, without guessing, are: 1) How long does it take once L.A. Consulate gets your application? 2) What are the odds of getting approved at a Port-of-Entry if you present a completed application with all documents?

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

Update for anyone that finds this thread. Even though it was said that FBI Report is not required for TRP, I would suggest getting one. Mine came back with two items - one dismissed, the other not even indicted - that don't show disposition. It looks like I am still wanted to two things that...

    TRP at Port of Entry?

I've read that airport is preferable to land border, as agents are more experienced and it can be an administrative headache to send someone back home. For those reasons an application has a better chance of being properly considered, rather than being dismissed out-of-hand. Problem is that's...

    TRP at Port of Entry?

U.S.A. According to one study, most TRPs are used for misdemeanor offenses in US that are "hybrid" offenses in Canada. There is evidence to suggest that such applications are typically approved when sent to Consulate, but the processing time makes it useless for business travelers (priority...

    TRP at Port of Entry?

I have searched for the answer to this question, but can not find a single story/post/experience: Does anyone have any experience with applying for a TRP (to overcome criminal inadmissibility) at a Port of Entry with a completed application and all required supporting documentation? Since...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

The more I work on this, the clearer the requirements become. I was initially way too focused on my "narrative," when Application is actually quite "clinical." It appears to work like a sieve: 1) Identify Applicant 2) FBI/State Background => Is Applicant a Fugitive? 3a)...

    Temp Permit At Border

The more I look into this, the more it seems like the main purpose of this process is to identify potential fugitives. All of the required information appears focused on equating U.S. charge(s) to Canadian equivalent(s) (so as to compare apples-to-apples) and to verify that every element of a...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

I'm still at odds over how much detail to provide. I went back to courthouse and got my complete case file. The problem is that it's incomplete and incorrect. I don't know whether to: 1) Provide the Official Letter from the Court that states I have satisfied every obligation, along with a...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

I guess the fact the poster on page one of this thread sent payment, and he's the only person, I have found, that reported success, means to send payment.

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

This is where it gets contradictory: "If you are sending in the form for information only See the section Coming to, or Remaining in Canada Without Approval of Rehabilitation. Do not send a processing fee. An officer will review the form and advise how you should proceed." Literally right...

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

The directions say to not send any money for a TRP - they will let you know if it's worth pursuing. Contradicts what we heard above, but maybe they do a quick glance and say "don't bother" if you're a murderer.

Application for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)

It sounds like it's just for Rehabilitation. Obviously the more you provide, the better, but I guess some of the State stuff can take forever to track down, making it not practical for TRP. It looks like TRP application is more concerned with documenting and explaining a single case, as...
