We crossed around 9 AM on Friday (day after thanksgiving). I am sure you can cross the border any time as most immigration services are available 24x7; however getting a SIN might be dependent on the operating hours of Service Canada (or Service Ontario or whatever province you are going to)...

Exactly why. It is an important document and I did not want to lose it. I was certain I didn't need it for a soft landing.

Again, sorry for going AWOL. Yes, it was on the Application status page. I also got an email the following day with an "update" to my account. I logged in and saw that there were counterfoil numbers for our COPR documents.

I am sorry for going AWOL. I did receive my passport back on June 9th (it was shipped out by CIC on June 6th). It was delivered in my mailbox. I didn't have to call UPS, I had already included a self-addressed pre-paid envelope as the instructions had indicated.

UPS took care of all that. I just had to declare what I was sending, that's all.

Sent from US. I had to send actual passports because I am from India (Indian citizen, US resident).

I just logged in to my CIC account and it shows that COPR has been generated. I don't know when this happened. The passports should be back in mail soon!

I used UPS to send the passports. I chose a big bubble mailer (12 x 14 I think?). I used a slightly smaller one (8 x 11 maybe?) as the pre-paid envelope. It cost me ~$20 to send it to Canada, and ~$10 for the pre-paid return envelope. I sent it on Friday 05/26 afternoon, it was received on...
