    Misspelling on passport receipt

Hey folks, quick question - I applied for my baby daughter's passport today at a Service Canada. I noticed on the "Official Receipt" they give after printing that a letter is missing from her first name. Does anyone know the likelihood of the misspelling showing up on the actual passport...

"I respect myself too much to stay in Canada": Why so many new immigrants are leaving

Yeah, it's truly odd. I'm baffled by the ambitious immigration targets and the almost total lack of educational reciprocity. Why you would encourage doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers... and then force them into unrelated, lower-wage professions because their 5-10 years of education or...

"I respect myself too much to stay in Canada": Why so many new immigrants are leaving

Good for you, but I think that's missing the point. Moving to another country shouldn't mean a hard reset on your qualifications and experience. People move to better their lives, to improve their prospects, to seek new adventures - not go backwards. If highly qualified people are being...

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

Like I said, I didn't mean any disrespect -- but you're asking things that 5 minutes with Google would answer for you. Look through the official list of incubators at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/start-visa/designated-organizations.html and...

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

Yeah, no disrespect intended, but if you're asking questions like this, you're almost certainly not going to find an incubator who will support you. 5 minutes with Google will reveal a list of approved incubators. After that, it's up to you to decide which area you want to start your business...

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I received a temporary number early Jan. Then 2-3 weeks later, I received a letter stating that my application is now being processed, with a new file number quoted.

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I did originally, yes, and received the acceptance letter. But the UK (and Canada, to an extent) was locked down at essentially the whole time the letter was valid, so I wasn't able to activate it.

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I received a temporary file number a couple of weeks before receiving a permanent one, so I imagine your friend should receive one shortly. I know people who applied around the time I did, and they only have a temporary one too -- so definitely don't worry. I'm from the UK.

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I wouldn't worry. I applied in April, so that's still pretty close to what I'd deem the 'start' of the pandemic and backlog. If you applied earlier and haven't heard anything, you should hopefully hear soon.

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

Update on my own PR app: Submitted April 2020. Temporary file number received early Jan 2021. AoR Jan 19th. Will keep everyone posted. Best of luck all!

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I'm not sure if an incubator has the authority to cancel a LOS, but why would they want to do that unless you're violating the terms of their agreement? All the incubators I've seen, issue a LOS after completing the program. If your intention is to cancel once you have the LOS, I'd imagine...

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

Yes, you file your PR app along with a valid LOS (i.e. before it expires.) You'll need to speak with the incubator to get details on their fee structure. Each is different. Some take an upfront fee, some allow you to split the cost over several months. Others have a lower fee + equity. If...

Applying for a Start-Up Visa directly?

I'd be very surprised if your incubator program lasts anywhere close to 16 months. Most are 3-6 months, max. Generally, you go through the incubator program to get the Letter of Support, file your PR app, get some training and/or office space (probably moot in today's environment) and then...

    Work permit letter renewal

Curious if anyone has run into this scenario... I was given a work permit letter of approval in Feb 2020. The following week, after making travel plans, Covid struck... and I've not been able to get over to Canada the whole year due to travel restrictions in Canada, my own country (or both.)...

Share your timeline - Under Startup Visa (SUV) Stream?

Do you know if that's 18 months from the time of applying, or 18 months from now? FWIW: Paper app received April 2020. No AOR yet.

Application received on June 11, but No AOR yet. SUV

No, I didn't set anything up until after I got accepted into an incubator. Once I was in the program, I incorporated a Canada company and got established. Then I got the LoS, applied for a work permit (which took 6 months), and then finally for PR in April. Still waiting for PR. The...

    Startup Visa Program Timeline

Well, yeah. If you say you have a degree, then prove it at the time of application. The application process is lengthy and a lot of paperwork needs to be submitted. Police certificates, any relevant education certificates, travel over your adult life, employment history, etc. As you go through...

    SUV Program

The official ETA has always been 12-16 months historically, so I'd say that's the norm. I've heard of some receiving it in 4-6 months, but also of some taking nearly 2 years, so who knows. AFAICT, the office that deals with the SUV is effectively closed right now, and no-one after March has...

Application received on June 11, but No AOR yet. SUV

No-one here will have received PR yet. The ETA is showing as 18+ months on the Canada Visa estimated timeline tool. In reality, it could be even longer due to Covid. I submitted my app in April, and still don't have AOR. I don't think anyone has. As for who to approach -- there's a list of...

    Startup Visa Program Timeline

I presume they asked for this, because you wrote the details in the education section, right? What I mean is -- you aren't required to have post-secondary education to apply for SUV. But if you say you do have educational qualifications, they're probably going to want to verify them. I don't...
