    International students

After going through the process myself over the last year or so as an international student, I feel your pain. I finally got my PR not too long ago, but had to bridge my PGWP to match my common law partner's to avoid being fired by my employer. Luckily she had more than 6 months left on hers and...

    Leave Canada without PR card

As you will find in other posts on this forum, it is absolutely possible to leave without your card and return, however, you need to be from a visa-exempt country or have the previously mentioned PR travel document. Here is my story from earlier this holiday season. I got my PR confirmation in...

    Common-Law

After talking to a lawyer, I have come to the same conclusion. We are now applying together and she is taking her IELTS this weekend. I'm scrapping the BOWP and going with OWP. Thanks for the help - really appreciate it!

    Common-Law

Yes, but I'm trying to find an official source that states this is OK as it would be tough to prove that I got the thumbs up from an agent if this becomes an issue down the line. I have sent an email to the EE team, and will copy their answer here as soon as I get it. If anyone finds an official...

    Common-Law

Correct. Spoke to another agent who said it's perfectly fine to have her as non-accompanying. However, he recommended including a letter of explanation regarding why we did it that way. Thanks for the info on the OWP - looks like it could be the way to go.

    Common-Law

I know, which is why I don't think I can afford dropping the 20 points and wait for us to apply together. Thanks for the heads up on the common law OWP, she works in NOC 1112, so that might be a back-up plan.

    Common-Law

Thanks for the reply. I know she must be included in the documentation, I guess the question is more related to whether she has to be a dependent or can be non-accompanying given that she has her own work permit that is valid for a while. Agree that it is kind of dumb to do everything twice, but...

    14 month old police certificate

You leave Germany and while you are in Canada a crime you committed a few years back is uncovered. There is your justification.

    Common-Law

Me and my common-law partner are both in Canada on PGWPs. She graduated later than me, so she has a few more years on her permit and has not taken any language tests, etc. Therefore, we decided that she would apply on her own later in the year/next year and I would apply on my own now without...

    14 month old police certificate

Not sure how it works for Germany, but here is how I did it for Norway while living in Canada. The Norwegian police have a separate division that deals with certificates, so I wrote them a letter, filled out their required form and included a copy of my passport. I specifically asked for the...

    score improvement in IELTS

I stand corrected then. For some reason I remembered something about it being the most recent score back when I did my CEC application last year.

    score improvement in IELTS

Pretty sure this is wrong. If you retake the test and get a lower score, that is the score you have to submit.

    LMIA for CEC

No, you don't need LMIA to apply under EE. The only downside is that you don't get the additional 600 points that come with it. Don't take this as gospel, but I would imagine that if you enter the pool in September, you should have plenty of time to get an ITA before your work permit expires.

why are people from outside canada favored by CIC than PGWP holders?

You were the one who compared CEC eligibility and LMIA/PNP; stating that being CEC eligible is worth more than having LMIA/PNP. Anyways, I sure hope you are right in your prediction regarding future CEC specific draws.

why are people from outside canada favored by CIC than PGWP holders?

I know. Was just being sarcastic given how being eligible for CEC as a PGWP holder means absolutely nothing when compared to a LMIA/PNP holder.

Same. NOC 1112 and virtually no shot at LMIA.

    WARNING: INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN CANADA

Well, currently even the best of the best are being screwed over by the new system. I also disagree with the whole "hurting someone else in the process argument". If a PGWP holder gets a job because of superior skills or qualifications, then the economy is better off having that person get the...

    What's your Plan B / Backup plan

Here is my situation and plan, which should work based on my research. However, feel free to shoot it down if you know something I don't. My PGWP expires in late June and my score is 469. Although I'm hopeful that the scores will come down in time for me to apply for a BGWP, as a safety I will...

So you are saying that between 500 and 450 there are over 50,000 applicants?
