On reading this sad thread, I cannot help but imagine that this was most certainly not the intention of the change in the rules on sponsorship of spouses.
It's been going on two years now -- my recollection fails me as to itty-bitty-details -- but were I to do it again, I would certainly include my Statement of Business Activities from that year's tax filing as well.
I am self-employed (non-incorporated sole proprietorship) and sent only one the Option C Printout as both my proof of income and employment, and I was accepted as my wife's sponsor without any issues.
