Not sure about your source of confirmation, but per my discussion with FRRO either e-visa or stay visa, after obtaining OCI in India, the other visas will be automatically cancelled and no need to go out of India and come back to claim the OCI status to be active.

I was told by FRRO when I applied for OCI in India that I don’t need to leave country when I get OCI and stay visa automatically gets cancelled .

There is no such a thing that you get away with law. For your information, Law will be effective for all days and if someone gets away without being noticed then there is no such law to be enforced. They know what they are doing and you cannot get away without simply being noticed.
