Hi, My friend is in Canada on a 2 years Employer specified work permit and his wife is here on a visitor visa (valid for 4 years). Can she apply for an open work permit from inside Canada? And does it in any way affect the status of their children in Canada? Thanks!

Yes I did. If you are in Canada applicant and were already working with Temporary SIN you can get permanent one based on your stamped/signed(after landing) COPR.

probably you need to bug them with email every day. Best time to email them is early morning (eastern time) so they will get back to you within couple of hours..thats my experience.

Hey once you receive PPR..you should immediately contact CIC for further guidance. Most probably they will say that principal applicant should submit passport at ottawa with an explanation letter stating why spouse's passport cant be mailed to Ottawa. Ottawa will give you instructions accordingly.
