income tax return - proof of spouse's US income?

Everyone - this is super helpful. I do have RRSPs and TFSAs (assets prior to our marriage and his PR status though), but why does my US husband need to report these to IRS? Does he have to report them if he is just listed as a beneficiary? Will he pay income tax on my gains? That doesn't seem...

income tax return - proof of spouse's US income?

Hello, I am rather belatedly preparing to file my income tax return for 2013. In 2013 I was married to my US husband, whose outland sponsorship application was still in process. In filing my taxes for 2013 what documentation do I need to provide for my husband's US income (no Canadian...

Travel by private vehicle US-Canada after landing with COPR and before PR card

Thanks so much! We'll be recrossing with our 'accompanying goods' - i.e we land in NB with the goods to go to a wedding and then will cut back through US again to get back to home in Ontario. Should that be fine? If not we could drive from NB to ON through QC Cheers!

Travel by private vehicle US-Canada after landing with COPR and before PR card

Hiya, I think I've read somewhere that after landing you can travel back and forth between US and Canada using the COPR after, if PR card hasn't arrived so long as you're not in a commercial vehicle. Is anyone able to confirm that for me? Is there any risk involved in doing this? Thank you!

LANDING IN CANADA ??? -All You Need To Know.

Hi there, The personal effects document asks for the Cdn $ value of items imported. Is that the original value of the item or the depreciated value (e.g. a 10 year old camera)? Thank you!

Moving to QC after landing in Ontario - what to do for health card, license etc?

Hi there, My husband US got his COPR mid July and will be landing in Canada end of August. We didn't apply for QC CSQ (because planned to continue living in ON), but now it seems likely we will move from ON to QC in October. Is this going to be a problem? Any advice on how to get health...

CoPR received - looking for advice on landing process and next steps in Canada

Thank you all for the super helpful info re landing, importing etc. Now I'm confused about the 'proof of address' for OHIP. My US husband has no proof of address in Canada as he lives in US. Is proof of my (i.e. the sponsor) address adequate? Is his COPR letter from CIC adequate? Is his...

Restrictions on importing Walnut, Oak and Teak boards into Canada

Hi there, My US husband just received his CoPR - hoorrah! Does anyone know if it is possible to bring unfinished boards of wood across the board as part of his 'personal effects'? Wood is not specifically referred to on CBSA site. Thanks!

CoPR received - looking for advice on landing process and next steps in Canada

Hi, We've received our CoPR while vacationing in US (applicant's home country) and are looking for advice on how to cross back into Canada. I'm sure there's a thread somewhere with all the steps carefully detailed but I can't find it. Specifically: The car we will cross the border in is...

Hiya just checking again to see if anyone has any experience/ advice on moving to QC while a PR application is in process (we didn't apply to QC as we weren't expecting to move). Thank you :)

Applied for PR in ON, but thinking of moving to QC - what now?

Hi, I am an ON resident and have been approved to sponsor my US husband. His application has been 'in process' since February 2014. At the time we assumed we would continue to live in Ottawa ON and submitted the general non-QC paperwork, but we are likely to move to Chelsea QC later this...

US/Can border crossing (by car) for 6 month entry while outland PR in progress

Hi there, I'm looking for advice on how to maximise the likelihood of my US husband getting a 6 month entry stamp when he drives across the border next week. He was last in Canada Oct-Dec 2013 and has been in US since then. I have been approved as sponsor, and his files have been...

Medicals not submitted upfront with Outland Application

You were right Graihn, I called CIC agent again this am (as the Dr couldn't match my UCI in EHealth) and this agent said to hold steady and wait for CIC to request medicals vs submitting them independently. And hey presto shortly thereafter my husband got an email requesting medicals.

Medicals not submitted upfront with Outland Application

Thank you Ponga! I spoke with a CIC agent this morning who confirmed that meds should be done asap - and that the results can be matched to our application even just with the principal applicant's name, DOB, contact info and where the application is being processed (i.e. Mississauga)

Medicals not submitted upfront with Outland Application

We don't have sponsorship approval yet, just an identification number (UCI). Does anyone else know whether it makes sense to submit medicals before or after sponsorship assessment/ when files get transferred? We definitely don't want them to send application back as incomplete. Also - how...

Medicals not submitted upfront with Outland Application

Good morning, We submitted an outland application for my US husband early January without the medicals (we understood we could submit them later once we had our UCI and thereby avoid them expiring, plus it was the Xmas holidays and we couldn't get a Dr's appointment and just wanted to submit...

American marrying Canadian in Canada (New Brunswick) - proof of being single

I'm having a hard time answering this question: Does a US citizen (never previously married) marrying a Canadian citizen in New Brunswick need to provide proof of being single, i.e. 'a statement of non-impediment to marriage abroad'? If so, how is this done? Thank you!
